I built steps on our porch so Jeannie can climb out of the canoe

After her hip replacement steps are very difficult for her.

Jeannie and I standing on our down stairs porch.
We have waterfront property, all the way around our house

The first time Jeannie saw our living room and kitchen she cried.
We could see the people down below through the floor and rats
could come in everywhere. There were holes in the walls as big as soft balls.

First I installed a new floor and put up inside walls Then we built cabinets, bought a sink and a propane 2 burner stove and purchased this table and chairs. She loves her apartment now.

March 24th to an amazing surprise

"Farewell Event" planned by the Bale

and people of the village.

About 50 canoes gathered

at my house and people lined

the waterways with signs saying

"Dave Douglass, We Love You,

We will Miss You"

All through the village people

waved and thanked me

for coming as about

100 people accompanied me

in canoes to the dock.

Meet my "Other Mother" a precious Muslim Lady.

This is the mother of Kutirat, the girl I led to Christ a few

weeks ago. She treats me like her son and is so sweet to me.

I could not get her to smile for the photo but when

she smiles at me her eyes squint and disappear.

I am determined to win her to Christ before I leave Nigeria.

Thursday Morning I preached at this school in Lagos

Once again the students listened to the Word of God and many

gave their hearts to Jesus in the invitation.

Girls School Near Makoko - Wed. March 10, 2010

I preached this morning at this Girls School close to Makoko

There are 600 students but some were preparing for an exam and unable to attend the meeting.

The students that did assemble received me with a

wonderful welcome. They laughed at my jokes and

listened to the message very attentively .Several of the girls helped me by holding up the visual aids.

Praying with the girls as more than 200 trusted
in Jesus Christ to save them.

boat people at this meeting but as the film ended

my projector caught fire and burned.

This precious mother, with baby in tow,

came up to my second floor porch to visit.

The people have really opened up in friendliness

and welcomed us here in the village of Makoko

Soul Winning in my newly painted Canoe! Brightest in the Village
This lovely lady, Juana was the first person to come
visit me in my house. She was very upset with me saying,
through an interpreter that she had seen me go from house
to house in my canoe and I had not come across the water
from my house to hers. She asked me to come pray with her.
I went by with Segun Babalola, the man in the striped shirt.
We sat on her living room floor, on pieces of cardboard boxes,
that were her only seats. With Segun intrepreting, I shared
Jesus Christ with her and she and her two
sons. Musthapa, and Solomon, trusted Christ.
She may be poor in this world but rich in Christ.

I preached this morning to a small school with 100 students
near the entrance to Makoko. Here are some of the
students. The Principal is the lady on the right.
The teacher on the left is a Christian and I gave her my
soul winning book. More than 80 of the students trusted
Christ in the invitation.

We set up our sheet high above a village area on
the grounds of a church and people began coming.

as the film began. Jeannie told me to take attendance,
I should count the eyes and divide by two.
194 received Christ when the invitation was given.

Monday evening March 1st - Film

We set up a screen next to a church on the shore of Makoko
Bro. Chris sang songs and began gathering the crowd.

We played games as the crowd continued to grow.

This is just a portion of a huge crowd that came
when I started the film. Bro. Chris gave the invitation and
more than 300 people trusted Christ. A great first day in March!

Friday's Film story - I could not upload earlier due to computer problem

We set up the Jesus film to be seen from this high tower

overlooking many houses and water ways.

Hundreds could see it from all directions

Boats began coming before it was dark and while I could take photos

and people got as close as possible. I gave the invitation and invited

people to pray with me receiving Christ. It sounded in the dark

like a huge shout coming from all directions as people were

inviting Jesus into their hearts.

I preached the entire message with an Egun interpreter
and when I invited them to pray they all prayed in English

Pastor Bedolph Abandy will come to Makoko

Pastor Bedolph Abandy, the assistant pastor of Independent

Baptist Church in Lagos has surrendered to come to Makoko

to pastor Calvary Baptist Church and to lead the

Calvary Christian Academy. We will begin the church this coming

Wednesday evening as a Bible Study.

Pastor Abandy is the Vice Principal

of a school in Lagos and will resign his position to come

and work in the school and church here.

She comes by to see me often in her wash tub boat.
I put toys in her tub for her brothers and sisters.

Never knew till today that she is one of the Bale's daughters

We played games with the children before the film

Last one with a blown up ballon on their foot

won a prize, Start Stamping each other's balloon

Meet my newest girl friend! Isn't she precious.

I could not get her to smile but she still stole my heart.

These men are the village leaders in that area.

The man in the golf cap tried to stop me from showing

the Jesus film and was the first resistance I have had here.

I laughed with him a while and won him over.

In the invitation, he was one of more than 300

that received Christ as his Savior.

I preached in a small French speaking school this morning.

I spent time teaching Pastor Joel Ayivoji how to win a soul

to Christ and gave him copies of the soul winning book.

Some times ya just gotta stop eating beef jerky, and noodles and

go into town and get real food. Lagos' version of KFC.

I splurged today and had chicken and french fries! Mmmmmm!

I can stay another month in Makoko now.

(On a sad note, I leave one month from today)

These goats ran from me like they thought I was after

goat meat. I have had my share of goat. I'll take

chicken any day!

Last evening we found a church in the village

which is not theologically straight but I asked permission

to use their front sandy area to set up a gospel film.

In the invitation most of the church members received

Christ and the pastor begged me to come teach him how to win souls.
I will spend a few hours with him today!

We set up a screen at this lagoon area in front of the building.

Unfortunately the photos we took during the movie

were very dark and hard to see, the only clear photo has a little

naked boy in view. I decided it was best not to publish that photo

on the internet. Naked children are everywhere here!

I know the way to a momma's heart. I loved on her baby

and won her heart before the film ever started.

We had a great crowd and momma was one of many

that trusted Christ in the invitation.

The Village Bale (chief) comes to every presentation when

I show the Jesus film. He adds his support everywhere.

The people of the village greatly respect him and know that

I live in his house next door to he and his wife.

He never goes anywhere without taking his Bible Machine

which plays the New Testament in Egun.

I hear him playing it through the night.

with all my students. Noah is interpreting for me.

My Boat Ministry - Hut to Hut Soul Winning

Notice the small brown speaker in the front of my boat.

It is very powerful. The black box is a "Proclaimer"
and it plays the New Testament in the Egun Language.

when they hear the Egun Bible.
The little speaker is a gift from

In every mission trip I have taken, the first financial gift
to help me has always come from Karen and Rugh.
Karen was the pianist in the first church I pastored
in Ohio, 38 years ago. She and Jeannie

were childhood friends.

hundreds of precious people to hear the gospel.

I have already visited hundreds of homes

in the Makoko Village in my soul winning boat.

Deaf Church Sunday Morning Feb 21, 2010

All of the men are deaf but love to sing and praise the Lord

These precious ladies listened to the Word of God

and made me promise to bring Jeannie back with me next time!

This exciting deaf choir sang specials before I preached.

Preaching with Toyin, my deaf interpreter. He is tremendous!

These three came forward to be saved and I shared scripture

and prayed with them while the church looked on.

buy water and I led this sweet sales lady named Kutirat, to Christ
using our soul winning book.

My Boat Purchased by Daniel and Meghan Douglass

This is my boat purchased by my son, Daniel and his wife

Meghan Douglass. Daniel is a pastor in Rock Hill, SC.

I saw my new boat for the first time in the daylight today.
A friend was bailing water from it. Is that a bad sign?
I was told that all the new boats leak till the wood swells.
I really don't want to end up swimming in this water.
Beginning of my boat ministry. I went to over 100 homes

taking gifts. I did not have an interpreter so could only

show them love and win them to me. Many of those I

visited came to the gospel film last evening.

Loaded all our equipment in the Bible Boat and took it to

the school to show the Jesus Film. The crowd began to gather as I showed a video first of Jeannie

and I in our various ministries in many countries. By the time

the Jesus film was shown we had a huge crowd on the sand in

front of the school and in boats gathered nearby.

One of the teachers interpreted for me in the invitation and

more than 175 prayed with me the sinner's prayer receiving Christ.

I shoot gospel airplanes from my porch and the chidren

race in boats and wash tubs to get them. Boy across

I gave them a jump rope and the teenagers were enjoying it.

I drank strawberry flavored water and I ate a fresh pineapple.

This is a dear friend, Zogbe, the brother of the village Chief.

He came to my house today to block the holes so

the rats cannot get in. 3 rats were on my bed in the night

and when I told the chief, he laughed and said he

would get me a cat. I decided to block the holes.

Last night I took our equipment and showed the Jesus film

for the first time, near the boat dock to Makoko.

By the time the film was going the entire building

was packed with Egun speaking people.

Approximately 175 received Christ in the invitation.

A family in Salsibury Baptist Temple in Salisbury Maryland bought the generator I purchased in Lagos An elderly lady makes her living carrying items

purchased by shoppers for them. She begged us to hire her

She carried the generator, and a cooking stove I purchased,
on her head for nearly a mile to our vehicle

Near the boat dock to Makoko there is a small school with

about 100 students. I preached there and a sweet little girl

about 12 years of age argued that she had never sinned, lied or

disobeyed. All of a sudden a relative of hers looked in the school

window and shouted. She sins all the time at home, every day!

Everyone laughed and she admitted she was a sinner

She was one of 40 that received Christ. She is the one in the front.
